I have 25 years of clinical experience of helping people and whanau with problems of depression, anxiety, effects of trauma, burn out, chronic pain, eating, alcohol and drugs use, head injury, ADHD, strong inner emotions , dissociation, psychosis and recurring patterns of intra & interpersonal problems with self and others.
My family and I arrived in Aotearoa-New Zealand in 2002 from the Netherlands. I am grateful to have learned some understanding of te Ao, te Reo and tikanga Maori.
Over more than 15 years I have enjoyed working for Northland DHB and Auckland DHB mental health services including for the Kaupapa Maori Service, DBT team, residential eating disorder service, group psychotherapy service, inpatient units, general hospital liaison, crisis-teams, ECT service, maternal mental Health and pain treatment team.
I aim to provide a respectful, safe and comprehensive treatment integrating social, cultural, psychological and biological principles.
I have been trained and am experienced in multiple psychological treatments including CBT, DBT, EMDR, ScHema Therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, mindfulness practice (MBSR-MBCT), and family therapy for anorexia nervosa.

I provide pharmacotherapy (medication) treatments and have experience with other biological treatments like ECT, in line with the latest Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists treatment clinical practice guidelines.
I have experience helping people with psychological effects of neurological (e.g. Traumatic brain injury) and other physical health problems .
I also provide assessments and medico-legal reports for ACC, FENZ and Veterans Affairs and other organisations.
I have a particular interest in assisting medical colleagues with the effects of burnout and related problems and I provide supportive counselling funded by the Medical Protection Society (MPS).
Following BSANZ accredited training, and several years with Balint group leader experience, I aim to start a reflective practice (Balint) group for medical colleagues to enhance their insight and awareness of often unconscious psychological aspects of the doctor - patient interaction. and to reduce professional isolation and risk of burn out.
I provide lectures for Auckland University to 2nd year psychiatry trainees in psychodynamic psychotherapy.
I provide professional supervision for colleagues working in mental health.
